Herentals (Eurotoday) – Law enforcement in Herentals deployed a helicopter last night in pursuit of a suspect involved in a drug-related case. The individual fled the scene during a routine police drug inspection. Though the helicopter search did not yield immediate results, authorities eventually apprehended the suspect at his home.
Police in the Herentals district relied on airborne surveillance in an effort to locate the suspect, who had evaded capture during a standard drug check. The fugitive initially managed to avoid detection, leading officers to intensify the manhunt with aerial support. Despite the initial failure to locate the individual from the air, police later tracked him down and arrested him at his residence. A subsequent search of the home uncovered several grams of cannabis.
During the drug inspection, officers attempted to frisk the man, but he resisted and fled the scene before they could detain him. In response, police immediately mobilized a helicopter to assist with the search. Although the aerial operation did not immediately locate the suspect, it helped to narrow down the area of interest.
Eventually, officers located and arrested the individual at his home, situated near the search area. A search of his residence led to the discovery and seizure of approximately 500 grams of cannabis. The suspect was the only individual detained in connection with the incident.
What’s behind the increase in drug-related arrests and police operations in Herentals?
Herentals, located in Belgium’s Antwerp province, has seen intensified efforts by law enforcement to combat drug crimes in recent years. Federal police data from 2022 indicates that over 4,500 arrests were made for drug offences in the province, with cannabis accounting for a significant portion of seized substances. Helicopters are frequently used in urgent operations where suspects attempt to flee, highlighting the authorities’ commitment to swift intervention.
The region continues to struggle with rising drug trafficking activity, fueled by its proximity to the Port of Antwerp — a major entry hub for illicit narcotics into Europe. Local police reports indicate a 17% increase in small-scale cannabis seizures in Herentals over the past year.
Belgian law enforcement has employed a combination of ground patrols and aerial surveillance to apprehend fleeing suspects effectively. Authorities uphold a strict zero-tolerance approach toward drug offences, imposing fines or prison sentences based on the quantity and type of substances confiscated.

Oh sure, nothing says “top-tier police work” quite like deploying a helicopter over a bloke with a bit of green. Next, they’ll be calling in the Air Force to catch a kid skipping school! 😂🚁

Oh, brilliant move there, Herentals police! Next time, maybe just bring a tea and a biscuit instead of a helicopter for a bit of dramatic flair—after all, nothing says “serious crime-fighting” like a chopper for a homebody with a stash of weed. 🚁💨

Just when you thought the Belgian police were only good for serving waffles, they’ve taken it to new heights—literally! Who knew that chasing a bloke for a bit of green would require a helicopter? 🍃🚁

Oh, brilliant strategy, sending in a helicopter for a bit of weed—next time, let’s just send the Air Force and call it a day! 😂 Seems like the only thing soaring higher than that chopper is the absurdity of it all! #BelgianLogic
