Geraardsbergen Man Faces €27,000 Fine and 7-Year Prison Sentence for Driving Offenses

Geraardsbergen Man Faces €27,000 Fine and 7-Year Sentence for Driving Offenses

Geraardsbergen (Brussels Morning Newspaper): A man from Geraardsbergen has been sentenced to a €27,000 fine and a 7-year prison term after failing to appear in court for serious driving offenses, including driving under the influence (DUI) and not having a valid license. Despite claims from his lawyer that the man had turned his life around in Tenerife, the judge deemed the punishment necessary due to his repeated offenses.

On November 15, the man was absent from a hearing at the Dendermonde police court regarding serious driving violations from the previous year. He had been caught driving under the influence of cocaine and alcohol, without a valid license, and in violation of an official order prohibiting him from driving. His lawyer acknowledged that he now resides in Tenerife and did not attend the court session.

Claims of a Changed Life in Tenerife Fall Short

Despite his lawyer’s argument that the man has changed his life, started a catering business with his partner in Tenerife, and no longer has any intention of driving, the judge ruled in favor of a strict sentence. The court heard the prosecutor’s criticism of the man’s continued disregard for the law and court orders, emphasizing the need for him to face the consequences of his actions.

Given his previous record of similar offenses, the judge imposed the hefty fine and prison sentence. If the man returns to Belgium, he will be immediately incarcerated.

Ah, the Geraardsbergen gentleman really knows how to make a grand exit—who knew a little joyride could cost him a cool €27,000 and a seven-year holiday behind bars? It’s almost as if he thought “drive it like you stole it” applied to his entire life rather than just his beloved scooter. Eejit, perhaps it’s time to swap the steering wheel for a bus pass, eh?

Ah, the lovely town of Geraardsbergen, where a man apparently thought he was auditioning for a role in a slapstick comedy—€27,000 and a seven-year sentence for driving offenses? Quite the budget for a joyride! One might say he’s taken the term “hardcore driver” a tad too literally; perhaps he mistook the road for a racetrack in Zolder!

Ah, the charming town of Geraardsbergen has truly outdone itself—where a little joyride can cost you a small fortune and a seven-year sabbatical in the local clink. Who knew that dodging traffic laws could be such an expensive hobby? I guess he’ll have plenty of time to reflect on the joys of public transport and the fine art of not being a numpty.

  4. Well, isn’t that just the cherry on top of the Belgian waffle? A mere €27,000 fine and a seven-year holiday in the clink for some driving mishaps—sounds like the perfect recipe for a mid-life crisis with a side of public shaming. One would think he was racing in the Tour de France rather than just dodging traffic lights!
