At the Geek Village festival in Genk, visitors become part of the story. Lara Bossolasco from Genk and her son drew attention as they walked through the festival dressed as the king of hearts and a heart thief.
“The fantasy that you can step into someone else’s shoes for a day, become a child again for a little while, that’s nice,”
Lara said.
She also makes her costumes and has been visiting similar festivals for 4 years, mainly at Elfia in the Netherlands. She said it is special to have a festival like this in Genk now.
“The festival has grown nicely; it’s fantastic,”
she added.
Kevin van der Ougstrate from Antwerp and his daughter Kayly also joined the festival. Kayly costumed as Maleficent, the famous character from the film of the same name.
“Marvel has always been my thing, my daughter is more into Disney films,”
says Kevin.
“It’s our first time in Genk, the location is beautiful, and the selection is very varied.”
Geek Village is a dynamic festival that celebrates geek and pop culture, including comics, cosplay, video games, and films. Originally inspired by events like Elfia in the Netherlands and other European fantasy fairs, the festival expanded to Genk.
The inaugural edition took place on November 17, 2024, at Thor Central in Genk, marking the beginning of an annual tradition. It has since grown significantly, attracting thousands of visitors each year.
