He mentioned that Trump was organizing a “large meeting” at the White House on Wednesday to work out the specifics of a “comprehensive plan” to rebuild Gaza, which has been turned into a “demolition zone” by Israel’s attack.
The Trump administration is also keen to resolve the war in Ukraine by the end of 2025.
Following rapid summits in Alaska and Washington with the leaders of Russia and Ukraine, Witkoff expressed, “the end is in sight,” and the U.S. was “hopeful that by the end of this year, and perhaps much sooner, we can actually find the components to achieve that peace deal.”
Russia had proposed a peace plan that “involves Donetsk,” the eastern Ukrainian region partly occupied by Kremlin forces, Witkoff said, promoting the offer as significant “progress.”
Ukraine and its allies have consistently stated that the war can end once Moscow halts its full-scale invasion, which began in the winter of 2022. However, the Kremlin is unwilling to do so unless Kyiv agrees to its demands, which include relinquishing vast, heavily fortified areas of territory in eastern Ukraine.
