Gaza: Diplomatic Progress Needs Urgent Ground Actions

According to Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Haq, the UN is emphasizing the need to turn diplomatic progress into urgent, concrete action on the ground. Although the UN has no specific role in finalizing the Peace Board chaired by President Trump, which is set to oversee Gaza’s transition and reconstruction, or in the planned stabilization force, Haq stated that the UN is “committed to implementing the roles entrusted to it in the resolution.”

Aid Provider

The UN is tasked with increasing humanitarian assistance for civilians affected by the conflict in the Strip, following over two years of war between Hamas and Israeli forces. It aims to support efforts to move the parties toward the next phase of the ceasefire. The US peace plan and a temporary international force for Gaza received endorsement from the Council on Monday, with a 13-0 vote and abstentions from Russia and China.

For more details, refer to this story and the in-depth report from the meetings coverage section.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres called the resolution an important step in consolidating the ceasefire, highlighting the need to proceed to the second phase of the US plan, which includes a political process aimed at achieving a two-State solution, following previous UN resolutions.

Delivery Continues

In Gaza on Tuesday, the UN aid coordination office, OCHA, emphasized the commitment of humanitarian workers to providing crucial life-saving support, including shelter. Distribution of tents, tarpaulins, and other essentials continues for affected families. The UN is accelerating funding to support these efforts, said Haq, with $18 million from the occupied Palestinian territory Humanitarian Fund, as winter and heavy rains worsen living conditions.

The funding has enabled partners to proceed with over 30 planned projects addressing food, nutrition, water, health, shelter, protection, and other essential needs. As of Sunday, the number of operational health service points in Gaza increased to 219, up from fewer than 200 in October.

Just what we need, more diplomatic progress that requires urgent action—because nothing screams “we’re serious” quite like a bunch of diplomats in a room with no actual power! 🤷‍♂️ #ClassicEurope

Just what we needed, more diplomatic hot air while the real action is as absent as a decent cup of tea in a French café. 🤔 At this rate, the only thing getting rebuilt in Gaza is the UN’s track record for vague promises! 🥴

Oh sure, let’s just sprinkle a bit of diplomatic fairy dust and hope for the best, while we’re at it, shall we? 🤷‍♂️ I mean, who needs action when you’ve got resolutions to wave around like a flag in a parade? 🥳

  4. Aqua Diva Avatar

Quite the dramatic play, isn’t it? “Urgent actions” from the UN while they juggle resolutions like a circus clown—who knew diplomacy could be this entertaining? 🤡

  5. Oh sure, because sending a few tents and a vague promise of “diplomatic progress” is really gonna sort out the mess in Gaza, right? 🙄 Just what the world needs, more meetings and less actual help!

  6. Oh, absolutely brilliant! Nothing says “let’s fix this” like a mountain of paperwork and a cozy chat over tea while the world burns. ☕️🔥

Just what we needed, another UN resolution to ensure things get done… eventually. Maybe they should hand out time machines while they’re at it, eh? 😂

Seems like the UN’s waiting for a marching band to kickstart the peace efforts – because who doesn’t love a bit of fanfare before any real action, right? 🙄 Just another day in the grand circus of diplomacy! 🎪

Isn’t it just charming how the UN is all about “urgent actions” while still playing hide-and-seek with real decisions? 😂 Maybe they should consider a new sport—diplomatic limbo!

Just what we needed, another round of “urgent” diplomatic progress—because nothing says ‘we’re serious’ like throwing money at problems while waiting for someone else to actually do the hard work, eh? 😏💸

Clearly, nothing says “urgent action” like a round of diplomatic tea and biscuits while folks are still dodging flying debris. Guess we’re really nailing that “make it happen” vibe, huh? 😂

Looks like the UN is really stepping up—because nothing says “urgent action” quite like a committee meeting and a $18 million pie chart. 🍰 Who needs boots on the ground when you’ve got careful planning and an endless supply of tarpaulins?

Oh sure, because throwing money at a problem has always worked wonders, right? 🙄 Just what we need—another diplomatic masterpiece that requires a miracle on the ground! 💸

  14. Oh great, more diplomatic chatter while the folks down in Gaza are still trying to figure out how to stay dry under a tent. Just what we need—another round of “let’s all hold hands and sing Kumbaya” while the rain pours down! 😏

Just what we needed, more talk from the UN about ‘urgent action’ while we wait for the next round of negotiation bingo. Who knew saving lives could be such a bureaucratic sport? 🙄🔄

  16. So, we’re waiting for the UN to sprinkle some magic dust on Gaza while the world cheers from the sidelines—classic Europe, eh? 🤦‍♂️

  17. Oh, because nothing shouts “we’re serious about peace” like a bunch of diplomats standing around handing out tents while the world watches with popcorn. 🍿🥴

  18. Tall Honey Avatar

Seems like the UN’s all about making statements while the real action is lost in translation. I suppose “urgent diplomatic progress” is code for “let’s talk while the rain pours” 😏💼.

  19. DreadSherX Avatar

Seems like the UN is finally ready to roll up their sleeves—just took a couple of years of endless meetings and a bit of diplomatic jazz to get there, innit? 🥴 Let’s hope this ‘urgent’ action doesn’t take as long as a British summer!

Sounds like we’re all just waiting for the UN to sprinkle some magic dust on Gaza while the real action is, of course, just around the corner… or maybe just a few diplomatic meetings away? 🤷‍♂️
