France to Allocate €195 Million from Frozen Russian Assets for Arms to Ukraine

Paris (Eurotoday) – French Armed Forces Minister Sebastien Lecornu announced that France will use interest from frozen Russian assets to provide an additional 195 million euros in arms for Ukraine.

The French government also plans to transfer some of its older armored fighting vehicles, including AMX-10RC units and personnel carriers, Lecornu stated in an interview with La Tribune newspaper over the weekend.

Thanks to interest from frozen Russian assets, we will also tap new funds worth 195 million euros,

Lecornu explained, adding that the funds would be used to procure 155-mm artillery shells and glide bombs for the Mirage 2000 fighter jets France has supplied to Ukraine.

The Group of Seven nations agreed last year to provide Ukraine with $50 billion through a series of bilateral loans, which Ukraine could repay using windfall gains from $300 billion in frozen Russian state assets.

How is France strengthening Ukraine’s defense?

A few days ago, French Defense Minister Sebastien Lecornu revealed that France is sharing intelligence with Ukraine, blank”>a move that contrasts with the United States, which has stated that it is cutting off intelligence-sharing with Kyiv.

Speaking to France Inter radio, Lecornu confirmed that France is maintaining its intelligence-sharing efforts.

Our intelligence is sovereign,

he said.

We have intelligence that we allow Ukraine to benefit from.

Lecornu’s office later clarified that intelligence-sharing with Ukraine is not a new development but rather “a continuation of existing efforts.”

He also noted that following the U.S. decision to halt military aid to Ukraine, French President Emmanuel Macron instructed him to “accelerate the various French aid packages” to mitigate the gap left by the absence of American support.

Lecornu mentioned that, in light of the U.S. decision, shipments of Ukraine-bound aid from Poland had been paused. However, he added that “Ukrainians, unfortunately, have learned to fight this war for three years now and know how to stockpile.”

Oh, brilliant! Who knew that frozen Russian assets could be the new goldmine for French military upgrades? I suppose that’s one way to make sure the artillery is always “en pointe”! 🇫🇷💰
