France remains committed to blocking the EU-Mercosur trade deal, says Macron

France is still working to gather enough support within the EU to block a major trade agreement between Brussels and Latin American nations, which President Emmanuel Macron argues would be harmful to French farmers.

Speaking at the opening of France’s annual agricultural fair in Paris, Macron emphasized that farmers should not be used as a “bargaining tool” either for economic policies or trade deals.

The free-trade agreement, negotiated over 25 years between the EU and Mercosur countries—Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Venezuela, and Bolivia—was finalized last December by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. However, France remains opposed to its implementation.

Oh sure, because what’s more important than keeping our farmers happy while letting 25 years of negotiations just rot in the compost heap? 🤷‍♂️ Maybe Macron thinks “trade” is just a fancy word for a baguette shortage! 🥖😏

Oh, brilliant! Just what we needed—Macron saving the world one French farmer at a time! Who knew that the fate of beef and baguettes hinged on a trade deal with faraway lands? 🥖🐄 #Priorities

Oh, splendid! Nothing like a good old French blockade to keep our farmers safe from those pesky Latin American avocados. 🍏 Because we all know that a little trade deal is definitely the real threat to French agriculture—right after, you know, rain and actual competition! 😂

Oh, brilliant move, Macron! Who needs fresh produce from Latin America when we can just keep recycling our own subpar cheese? 🧀 #BonAppétit #FarmersFirst

Oh, look at Macron, the knight in shining armor for French farmers! 🌾 Because who needs global trade when we can just grow our own avocados in the Loire, right? 😂

Oh, magnifique! Nothing like a 25-year negotiation turned into a fine French cheese—aged to perfection but still not quite ready to be served, eh? 🍷🥖 Let’s just hope those farmers have enough bargaining chips to keep the rest of the continent from snacking too hard on this deal! 😏

Oh, magnifique! Nothing says “we’re open for business” quite like blocking a trade deal that took a quarter of a century to negotiate. Must be nice to protect those farmers while the rest of us just try to put food on the table… 🍷🥖

Oh, magnifique! Who needs trade deals when we can just block everything and keep our farmers cozy under a warm blanket of protectionism? 🤷‍♂️ It’s not like the rest of Europe wants a slice of the Brazilian barbecue, right? 🍖🍷

What is the purpose of jagged edges on coins?

Coins with jagged edges aren’t just a design choice; they serve as a clever anti-theft measure from the past.
