France Investigates Disinfo Campaigns Targeting 2027 Election Candidates

The Paris prosecutor’s office has initiated a probe into disinformation campaigns against two key contenders in France’s upcoming presidential election, as reported by Agence France-Presse.

Edouard Philippe and Gabriel Attal, both former prime ministers and notable candidates for the 2027 election, were reportedly targeted earlier this summer by false news items on social media intended to undermine their political efforts.

False videos on X falsely branded from major French news outlets claimed Philippe, who has alopecia, was diagnosed with a neurodegenerative disease, while bogus reports on X and TikTok alleged Attal had Parkinson’s disease and was involved in drug use.
