France: European Parliament Refutes Claims of “Lack of Clarity” in Rules During Marine Le Pen’s Trial

Paris – Didier Klethi, the Director-General for Finance of the European Parliament, stated before the Paris Court of Appeal that “the Parliament is the victim of a system where certain assistants to FN (Front National, now RN) MEPs were effectively working for the party’s interests.”

Throughout the hearing on Tuesday, Marine Le Pen centered her defense on what she claimed was a failure by the European Parliament’s administration to fulfill its “warning role” concerning the controversial contracts.

“We had no sense that we had committed any wrongdoing,” she asserted.

Defense attorneys have raised concerns over the EP administration’s lack of oversight and the complexity of its regulations.

Didier Klethi countered, “We cannot hide behind a lack of clarity. This argument has been reiterated many times, and the Court of Justice of the European Union has consistently ruled that the rules are sufficiently clear.” (15 January 2026)

So, the European Parliament is suddenly a victim? Talk about an unexpected plot twist in this political soap opera! 🤷‍♂️ Must be nice to have rules as clear as mud to play with, eh? 😂

  2. Just what we needed, more clarity from the EU! 🍷 It’s like asking a Parisian for directions—good luck finding your way without a map and a prayer! 😏

Oh, how delightful! Apparently, clarity is just another fancy word in Brussels, right next to “accountability.” 😂 Guess we’ll all need a GPS to navigate those “sufficiently clear” rules!

Oh, fantastic! Nothing screams “transparency” like blaming the rules while trying to play the victim in a courtroom drama. 🤷‍♂️ Who knew European bureaucracy could be so… crystal clear? 😂

Brilliant! Just what we need, a masterclass in clarity from the European Parliament—like trying to find a needle in a haystack while blindfolded and on a merry-go-round! 😂

Seems like the European Parliament’s idea of clarity is as clear as a London fog—perfect for hiding all sorts of shenanigans! 🤔🧐

Oh, typical: the European Parliament is like that overly complicated IKEA furniture – clear as mud until you realize it’s all just a ruse to keep you guessing. 😏

  8. Oh sure, because nothing says transparency like a bureaucrat insisting that the rules are crystal clear while everyone’s scratching their heads like chickens trying to solve a Rubik’s cube. 🐔💼

Looks like the European Parliament’s clarity is as clear as mud, eh? 🤷‍♂️ But hey, who needs straightforward rules when you can have a good ol’ courtroom drama instead! 🍷✨

Oh là là, who knew the European Parliament could be so clear-cut? Must be all that fine wine and baguette-fueled clarity! 🍷🥖

Imagine that, the EU claiming clarity in rules while we’re all still scratching our heads like we’re trying to read the fine print on a French wine label. 🍷 Typical!

Seems like the Eurocrats are having a hard time with the concept of “clear rules” – perhaps they need a map and a compass to navigate their own bureaucracy! 😂 Typical, innit?

Oh, magnifique! It appears the European Parliament is now moonlighting as a clairvoyant—who knew their rules were crystal clear? 🤔🍷

  14. Looks like the rules are as clear as a foggy morning in London ☁️, yet we still expect the MEPs to navigate through it like seasoned taxi drivers. Who needs clarity when you can just wing it, right? 😂

Typical French drama, isn’t it? One minute they’re on about “clarity,” the next, it’s a soap opera starring Le Pen—who knew European politics could be such a riveting thriller? 😂

Oh, of course, because when it comes to legal clarity, nothing says “transparency” quite like a labyrinthine set of rules designed to confuse even the sharpest minds. 🤔 Typical Euro bureaucracy, eh? Just another day in the land of “that’s not my problem!”

Oh, fantastic! Nothing screams accountability like a bunch of bureaucrats playing hide and seek with clarity while Marine plays the victim. Just when you thought the EU had run out of ways to make legal jargon sound like a soap opera! 😂
