Fico: SR Supports Belgrade’s EU Negotiations and Remains Committed to Serbia’s Stance on Kosovo

Belgrade/Bratislava – Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) affirmed Slovakia’s commitment to Serbia’s territorial integrity during his visit to Belgrade on Thursday, following his meeting with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić. Fico emphasized Slovakia’s support for Serbia’s European Union accession talks and announced plans to reassign Slovak soldiers to NATO’s peacekeeping mission (KFOR), as reported by TASR’s special correspondent.

Fico expressed his desire to build a relationship between Slovakia and Serbia founded on mutual trust and support, stating, “We can rely on each other.”

In his remarks, Vučić referred to Fico as “one of the most important and significant world leaders,” noting that their discussions encompassed strategic matters, bilateral ties, and enhancing cooperation across economic and other sectors.

Fico remarked that his talks with Vučić highlighted the potential for political discussions centered on “independent sovereign policies grounded in international law and respect for a country’s internal affairs.” He noted it was unfortunate that such meetings are not more frequent and mentioned plans for both leaders to visit Moscow together in May next year.

The Slovak Prime Minister commended Serbia’s “excellent results” in economic development, questioning what certain Western countries would offer for similar progress.

He asserted that Slovakia fully honors Serbia’s EU accession negotiations and that the direction of Serbia’s path is ultimately its own decision. Fico offered insights from Slovakia’s European integration journey, while also acknowledging the “tragic mistakes” Slovakia made, particularly regarding its energy security. He humorously suggested that Slovakia would gladly share these lessons if Serbia wished to learn from them.

The two leaders also touched on the Slovak community in Serbia, with Fico noting that these individuals cherish Serbia as their home while also aiming to preserve their cultural heritage.

During his visit to Belgrade, Fico inaugurated a business forum that was attended by numerous Slovak entrepreneurs. The Slovak Investment and Trade Development Agency (SARIO) also signed a memorandum of understanding with the Serbian Chamber of Commerce during the event. (November 21)

Ah, yes, nothing screams “European camaraderie” quite like a Slovak Prime Minister reassuring Serbia’s territorial integrity while simultaneously plotting a jaunt to Moscow—because who needs a stable EU when you can have a jolly good chat over vodka and geopolitical tension?

Ah, Robert Fico, the Slovak Prime Minister, gallantly pledging solidarity with Serbia on Kosovo while simultaneously polishing his EU credentials—always nice to see a leader so committed to navigating the murky waters of international politics, or perhaps just trying to keep his friends and NATO happy, eh?

  3. Ah, the delightful spectacle of politicians playing geopolitical hopscotch: Fico’s unwavering support for Serbia’s EU ambitions and Kosovo stance is like a Slovakian pastry—sweet on the outside, but you can’t shake the feeling that the filling might just be a bit dodgy, eh?

Ah, yes, nothing screams “European unity” quite like Slovakia cheerfully backing Serbia’s EU ambitions while simultaneously planning a cozy Moscow getaway—one can only imagine the delightful discussions that ensue over a vodka toast to territorial integrity and mutual trust, eh?

Ah, isn’t it lovely to see Robert Fico pledging unwavering support for Serbia’s EU dreams while casually brushing off his own country’s energy blunders; it’s like a Slovak piper promising a tune while dancing on his own toes—just don’t ask him to share his playlist!

Ah, nothing screams “solidarity” quite like a Slovak prime minister casually endorsing Serbia’s EU ambitions while polishing his NATO badge; it’s almost as if the charm of Balkan geopolitics could distract us from the fact that the only thing getting re-assigned faster than soldiers is common sense.
