EU’s Top Diplomat Condemns “Rule of Force” at the UN

United Nations (United States) – In a speech delivered on Tuesday to the United Nations Security Council, Kaja Kallas, the EU’s foreign policy chief, condemned the “blatant violations of the UN Charter” occurring globally and criticized efforts to supplant the rule of law with force.

Kallas emphasized the importance of adhering to international law in various conflict zones, including Gaza, Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Myanmar, Haiti, and Ukraine.

In this light, she reaffirmed the EU’s strong commitment to achieving a “just and lasting peace” in Ukraine, particularly as US President Donald Trump has increased pressure on Kyiv to bring an end to the war that erupted following Russia’s invasion in February 2022.

“Europe has learned from its own history that giving in to the demands of aggressors only leads to further violence,” Kallas asserted.

Concerning the situation in Gaza, she urged the removal of “all obstacles to comprehensive aid,” as Israel has been blocking humanitarian assistance from reaching the Palestinian territory since March 2. (March 11, 2025)
