Germany has already funded a €500 million air-defense package and will contribute at least €150 million to a new package agreed upon this week. Berlin aims to present a substantial proposal on joint procurement with the U.K. at the group’s next meeting in Warsaw.
France emphasized the need for increased military and economic pressure on Moscow. French Armed Forces Minister Catherine Vautrin pledged that Paris will support Ukraine for as long as necessary and highlighted France’s role in preparing security guarantees for Kyiv in the Franco-British “coalition of the willing.”
She also advocated for stricter sanctions enforcement, warning that Russia’s sanctions-evading “ghost fleet” finances much of its war effort. “We must increase the pressure to disrupt this economic model,” she stated.
Italy showcased its assistance measures, with Defense Minister Guido Crosetto announcing €800 million in civilian support, including generators to address winter energy shortages, along with additional military aid through its fourth and 12th aid packages. “Our commitment to Kyiv will continue — always,” he said.
Poland’s Deputy Defense Minister Paweł Zalewski linked Europe’s security to Ukrainian resilience, stressing Poland’s provision of military equipment, financial aid, and political support to Kyiv. “We believe that Europe’s security line is on the Russo-Ukrainian front line,” he asserted.
Warsaw plans to submit over €40 billion in defense-industrial projects under the EU’s new investment scheme, including joint ventures with Ukrainian defense companies in Poland to enhance Ukraine’s long-term capacity.
