EU4GreenGen has been launched at the House of Europe in Tirana as an initiative focused on enhancing environmental awareness in the region. The project aims to spotlight critical topics such as the circular economy, biodiversity, and waste management, while also supporting Albania’s efforts to meet the European Union’s environmental standards.
With an investment of nearly 1.5 million euros over the next three years, the EU4GreenGen project will roll out six communication campaigns designed to educate the public about green issues, motivate action, and cultivate a generation committed to sustainability in Albania.
The campaigns will advocate for environmental education, encourage sustainable practices, and bolster Albania’s alignment with EU environmental policies.
“EU membership goes beyond just adopting laws; it enables genuine social change. Through EU4GreenGen, we aim to inspire behavioral shifts, enhance knowledge, and foster civic engagement by collaborating with the government, civil society, media, and businesses for the benefit of the Albanian people,” stated Hubert Perr, Head of Cooperation at the EU Delegation in Albania, during the launch event.
Albanian Deputy Minister of Tourism and Environment, Sofian Jaupaj, highlighted the significance of launching this project at this critical juncture.
“This initiative arrives at a pivotal time in Albania’s path toward EU membership. Our country is abundant in natural heritage and biodiversity, and the transition to a green economy is not only a national aspiration but also a collective responsibility,” he remarked.
A key goal of the project is to improve public understanding of the European Union’s support for environmental reforms in Albania and the advantages of aligning national legislation with EU standards. (April 25)
