The dormitory buildings 16 and 17 in Student City, Albania, have been modernized to provide enhanced facilities for students, including upgraded living spaces, reading areas, and free internet access. The renovations also focus on improving energy efficiency.
The newly opened buildings feature well-appointed sleeping rooms with private showers and toilets, communal reading rooms, kitchens, and dining areas on each floor, alongside a security system and laundry amenities.
During the inauguration ceremony, Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama expressed appreciation to the European Union delegation and the German Development Bank (KfW) for their contributions.
Rama emphasized that Student City is designed to cater to the future and aims to offer conditions comparable to those found in European Union countries.
The initiative titled “Energy Efficiency Rehabilitation of Student Dormitories of Public Universities in Albania” is a collaborative effort funded by Germany and the EU through KfW. It encompasses the energy-efficient renovation of 19 student dormitories within the Student City I campus in Tirana.
This project will benefit over 2,600 Albanian students by significantly enhancing their living and studying environments, aligning them with the high standards found in other European nations.
Notably, at least 70% of the capacity in the renovated dormitories will be allocated to low-income students, thereby fostering social infrastructure for those from disadvantaged backgrounds. (February 7)
