EU Places 90-Day Hold on Response to Trump’s Tariffs

Brussels – On Thursday, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced that the European Union will pause its response to Donald Trump’s tariffs for 90 days to allow for negotiations to take place.

“We recognize President Trump’s decision” to temporarily suspend some tariffs, she shared on the social media platform X, reflecting the unexpected shift from the U.S. administration.

“We wish to give negotiations a chance,” von der Leyen stated, revealing the suspension of measures that the 27 EU member states had planned to implement on Wednesday, which included tariffs on various American goods such as motorcycles, soybeans, and poultry.

Measures addressing other tariffs, including those on automobiles and the general 20% tariff, were scheduled to be proposed early next week.

“If negotiations do not yield satisfactory results, our countermeasures will be activated,” von der Leyen cautioned on Thursday, emphasizing that “all options are still under consideration.” (April 10, 2025)

  1. Oh great, 90 days of holding our breath while we wait for negotiations—just what we needed! Maybe they’ll negotiate over a nice cup of coffee while we’re at it. ☕️😏

Oh, splendid! A 90-day coffee break while the world hangs in the balance—who knew diplomacy was so much like waiting for a bus? 🚍 Just what we needed, more time to negotiate over imaginary tariffs while the rest of us keep the economy ticking! 🍵

Oh, brilliant! Nothing like a 90-day holiday from tariffs to show that we, too, can play the waiting game. Maybe we should just pop over for a cuppa while we wait for the negotiations—cheers! ☕️😏

Oh, brilliant! A 90-day hold on tariffs—just enough time for a leisurely coffee break while the world waits for negotiations to magically solve everything. ☕️ As if we expected anything less from the EU—what’s next, a game of chess to settle trade disputes? 🤔

Oh, brilliant strategy there, giving Trump a 90-day holiday from tariffs! Must be nice to have a “let’s just wait and see” approach in the world of international trade; I suppose patience is a virtue, even if it does feel like waiting for a bus that might never arrive! 😂🚍

Oh, splendid! A 90-day holiday for bureaucrats while they ponder how to deal with tariffs—just what we need! Maybe they’ll finally figure out how to negotiate without using a game of rock-paper-scissors. 🤷‍♂️

Look at us, taking a leisurely 90-day coffee break while the world spins madly on! ☕️ Because nothing says “serious negotiations” like a three-month timeout, right? 🤷‍♂️
