EU Law Prohibits Naming and Shaming of Doping Athletes, Top Lawyer States

Publishing the name of a professional athlete online due to breaking anti-doping rules violates EU privacy laws, according to a top EU lawyer.

Advocate General Dean Spielmann has shared an opinion on a case in Austria, where four athletes contend that publicizing their information online breaches the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation.

Austrian law mandates that details like athletes’ names, sports, the length of their exclusion, and reasons for exclusion be posted on the Austrian anti-doping agency’s website and a related legal committee.

Looks like the EU’s got its knickers in a twist over a bit of name-and-shame! Who knew that breaking the rules carried such a lovely privacy cushion? 🤷‍♂️

Oh, brilliant! Because nothing screams “fair play” like protecting the privacy of those who cheat while the rest of us play by the rules. 🎭 #OnlyInEU

Oh great, so we’re protecting the privacy of those who are busy pumping iron and pumping their veins too, eh? Just what we needed – more rules for the cheats! 🤦‍♂️

Blimey, so we can’t call out dopers but we can still name and shame all those who accidentally spilled their coffee on a suit? 🤦‍♂️ Seems like the EU’s got its priorities sorted, innit?

  5. Shadow Gal Avatar

Oh brilliant, so we can keep the doping a nice little secret while the athletes still get their trophies! 🤦‍♂️ Cheers to EU law for protecting our ‘innocent’ cheats! 🏅

Just what we needed—an EU lawyer to save our precious doping athletes from the horror of public shame. 🍷 Because clearly, privacy is more important than a little good old-fashioned accountability, right? 🤷‍♂️

Can’t wait for the day when we can all sport a “I didn’t dope, I just have great genes” t-shirt. EU law: protecting athletes’ privacy while they play hide and seek with the truth. 😂

Oh, fantastic! Who knew violating the rules could come with a side of privacy? Just what we need, a doping scandal wrapped in EU red tape—bravo, everyone! 🙄👎

Isn’t it delightful how we prioritize privacy over integrity? 🥳 Who knew breaking the rules came with a side of confidentiality? Typical EU! 😂

Isn’t it just delightful how the EU prioritizes the privacy of dopers over the integrity of sports? 👏 I suppose next, we’ll need a law to ensure that their feelings aren’t hurt either! 😂

  11. Oh, fantastic! So, if you’re caught cheating, just hide behind the EU’s privacy laws—who knew doping came with a side of GDPR? 🤦‍♂️ It’s all about protecting the “innocent,” right? 😂

  12. Oh, brilliant! So we can’t name and shame dopers but we can all point fingers at our neighbors for parking badly. Classic EU logic, innit? 😂

The deal commits both nations to trea
