EU Excludes Chinese Firms from Major Public Contracts for Medical Equipment

Brussels – In response to limitations imposed on European businesses in China, the Commission intends to prohibit Chinese firms from supplying health products to public entities, including masks, bandages, machines, and robots, which constitute a market valued at 150 billion euros.

The initiative “seeks to prompt China to eliminate its bias against EU-manufactured medical devices,” as stated in an announcement.

The European Union asserts that its public contracts are accessible to 95% of global competitors, while European firms have almost no access to public procurement in China.

Following a year of unproductive discussions, the trade policy management Commission has resolved to take action.

“Our aim is to secure equitable conditions for EU businesses. We remain open to dialogue with China to address these matters,” highlighted European Commissioner for Trade, Maros Sefcovic.

Looks like the EU has decided to play hardball with China over medical supplies—because nothing screams “global cooperation” quite like slamming the door on a 150 billion euro market. 😂 Good luck finding those bandages, though; I hear they’re just as hard to get as a taxi in rush hour!

Oh brilliant, just what we needed – a lovely game of “who can shut out whom” in the medical supply arena! 🤦‍♂️ Let’s see if this will help our health or just pave the way for more “European innovation” in the form of overpriced band-aids. 🤑

Looks like the EU’s playing hardball with China over medical gear – must be nice to have a 150 billion euro tantrum while pretending to seek ‘equity’ 😏. Good luck with that dialogue; maybe send a postcard! 📬

  4. Just what we needed, another EU policy to flex our muscles and show the world how “open” we are! 🤦‍♂️ Next up, we’ll be asking our own folks to make tea for the robots too! 😂

Oh, brilliant move, EU! Nothing screams “let’s play nice” like slamming the door on your biggest suppliers. 🤑 It’s almost like throwing a tantrum in a fine dining restaurant because the chef won’t serve your favorite dish. 🍽️

  6. Just what we needed, a little more ‘fairness’ in the medical market – because who wouldn’t want their masks made with a side of European bureaucracy? 🤷‍♂️💼 Let’s see how that dialogue goes while we sip our overpriced lattes.
