Brussels (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Deputy Chief Spokesperson of the EU Commission, Stefan De Keersmaecker, reaffirmed the European Union’s stance that Ukraine remains a democracy, whereas Russia does not.
He was responding to comments made by United States President Donald Trump, who referred to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as a “dictator without elections” following the expiration of his term last year and the decision not to hold an election during wartime.
We have a fairly straightforward and clear position on this: President Zelensky was legitimately elected in free, fair, and democratic elections,
EU spokesman Stefan De Keersmaecker told reporters.
Ukraine is a democracy, Putin’s Russia is not.
The European Union insists that both Ukraine and Europe must be involved in any peace negotiations.
There can be no solution for Ukraine without the involvement of Ukraine, nor without the involvement of the European Union,
De Keersmaecker stated.
What concerns does Von der Leyen have about Trump’s approach?
Additionally, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has voiced deep concerns about Donald Trump’s approach to Ukraine peace talks. She particularly criticized his blank”>decision to engage with Russian President Vladimir Putin without consulting European allies. She reiterated that Europe must be a signatory to any agreement concerning Ukraine.
Financially and militarily, Europe has brought more to the table than anyone else. And we will step up. We want to partner with the U.S. to deliver a just and lasting peace for Ukraine,
von der Leyen emphasized.
Now is a critical moment,
she added.
Following the Ukraine meeting, she stated,
Today in Paris, we reaffirmed that Ukraine deserves peace through strength. Peace that respects its independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, with strong security guarantees. Europe carries its full share of the military assistance to Ukraine. At the same time, we need a surge in defense in Europe.

One response to “EU Declares Ukraine a Democracy, Labels Russia as Undemocratic”

Oh sure, because declaring a country a “democracy” while fighting a war is just like calling a kebab a salad—totally makes sense, right? 🍽️ Just waiting for the day when they start handing out “Best Democracy” trophies at the EU annual gala! 🎉

Seems like the EU has cracked the code to democracy—just declare it and voilà! Who knew the secret to legitimacy was simply ignoring elections during a war? Classic! 😏🇪🇺
