Brussels – The EU and Singapore signed an agreement to collaborate on AI safety, innovation, and responsible development through shared knowledge and standards.
The European Commission Services and Singapore’s Ministry of Digital Development and Information have inscribed an Administrative Arrangement to commemorate the beginning of the collaboration between the EU’s artificial intelligence (AI) Office and Singapore’s AI Safety Institute.
How will the EU-Singapore AI partnership impact global safety?
As reported by the EU Commission, this Arrangement is a significant step forward in strengthening their collaboration in promoting the innovation, development and responsible service of safe, trustworthy and human-centric AI.
In her remarks, Margrethe Vestager, Executive Vice-President for Europe Fit for the Digital Age, stated: “The safety of AI models employed by people around the world is crucial. We have a common purpose to ensure technology works for us and is in line with our values. Today’s agreement underscores that when we share knowledge we can learn from each other. This allows us to support the established digital collaboration. With safety in mind, innovation can happen with minimal jeopardy and advance in understanding this particularly fascinating yet challenging technology. I look forward to seeing the results of the cooperation between our AI office and the Singapore AI Safety Institute.”
Moreover, the two administrations, like-minded allies, agreed to manage the safety of general-purpose AI models via information exchanges and best practices, joint testing and evaluations, development of instruments and benchmarks, standardisation actions, as well as research on how to promote safe and trustworthy AI.
Additionally, the two partners decided to exchange thoughts on trends and future technological developments in the field of AI, with further areas of cooperation remaining an option. The Administrative Arrangement signed forms an important deliverable of the EU-Singapore Digital Partnership signed in 2023.

Ah, the EU and Singapore teaming up to fortify AI safety standards—because nothing says “we’re serious about technology” quite like a good old-fashioned collaboration that definitely won’t involve endless paperwork and a few weeks of deliberation over the precise shade of beige for the guidelines. One can only hope this partnership leads to more robust regulations than the last time we tried to agree on a common cheese standard. Cheers to progress, one bureaucratic coffee break at a time!

Ah, because nothing says “we trust technology” like a bureaucratic tango between the EU and Singapore over AI safety standards. It’s almost as if they believe a few meetings and regulations will prevent our future robot overlords from, you know, taking over the world. Cheers to a collaboration that’s bound to keep us all on the edge of our seats—probably for a very long coffee break!

Ah, nothing says “we’re serious about safety” quite like the EU and Singapore joining forces—it’s like having a Michelin-star chef and a hawker center vendor team up to create the perfect dish of bureaucratic delight. One can only imagine the thrilling meetings filled with slideshows and lengthy discussions about how to keep our robots from becoming rogue. Just what we needed: another layer of red tape to ensure that our AI overlords remain, you know, slightly less malevolent!

Ah, the EU and Singapore joining forces to ensure our future robots don’t turn us into their house pets—clearly, they’re working harder to out-think those pesky AI models than we are to out-think our tax returns, because nothing screams “trustworthy technology” like a bureaucratic tango across continents!
