Liberal Democrat Leader Ed Davey urged Starmer to question Trump about Epstein during their meeting this week. Edward Leigh, a senior Conservative MP, remarked that Trump is likely embarrassed by his association with Epstein and might be furious. Leigh also commented that Trump might view the UK as foolish for its handling of the situation, particularly noting the political appointment of Mandelson over career diplomat Karen Pierce.
Despite these headlines, Trump’s exposure to political challenges was minimized by those planning his trip. A Downing Street official stated the visit was planned for months, with no change after Mandelson’s dismissal. Trump is set to be hosted by King Charles III at Windsor Castle, 25 miles from London, while MPs are on recess, thus avoiding the risk of a parliamentary boycott call.
