Brussels – Ukrainian refugees in the EU will enjoy prolonged protection until at least March 2027.
This decision was reached last week by the justice and interior ministers of EU member states, following a proposal from the European Commission.
“The EU continues to demonstrate its solidarity with the Ukrainian people. We will extend our protection to millions of Ukrainian refugees for another year,” stated Tomasz Siemoniak, the minister from Poland, which currently holds the presidency.
The EU initiated its temporary protection measures immediately after the renewed Russian invasion in February 2022.
