An account on X sparked widespread attention on Thursday after posting news about the latest Tory defection to the Reform Party, accompanied by the bold claim: “Reform will win the next general election.”
Elon Musk amplified the conversation when he shared the post with his audience of over 200 million followers, responding simply: “Yes.”
The Reform Party has chosen not to comment on reports from The Times around this development. However, its former Director of Communications, Gawain Towler, dismissed the chatter as “febrile Westminster gossip.” Despite that, Towler admitted that a potential donation from Musk was “not 100 percent out of the question.” He argued that Musk views the U.K. as the birthplace of “the ideas of liberty and freedom,” adding that the tech billionaire appears to have an “emotional attachment” to Britain.
Conservatives Warn: Reform Risks Splitting the Vote
While Reform lags behind Labour and the Conservatives in terms of representation in the House of Commons, its influence is growing. The party is currently polling at 18 percent nationally, according to POLITICO’s Poll of Polls, and has emerged as Labour’s main challenger in several constituencies.
Elon Musk, for his part, seems disillusioned with the U.K.’s current administration. The Tesla and SpaceX CEO has publicly clashed with Prime Minister Keir Starmer on X, frequently engaging in debates about British politics and sharing news stories critical of the Labour leader.
Even though the rumors remain unconfirmed, the mere suggestion of Musk aligning with Nigel Farage and the Reform Party is enough to unsettle Conservative Party members, many of whom are now hoping for Musk to reconsider his stance.
