Tirana – The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is set to finance the construction and electrification of the Durrës-Rogozhina railway line, which is part of Corridor 8, by providing Albania with a loan of 30 million euros.
This loan is in addition to the 30 million euros from the European Investment Bank (EIB) and 60 million euros in investment grants and technical assistance from the EU, all of which were secured in April this year. The total funding for this railway segment amounts to 120.5 million euros, according to abcnews.al.
This significant project entails the rehabilitation, completion, and electrification of approximately 34 kilometers of railway between the port city of Durrës and Rogozhina in Albania, including upgrades to railway station facilities.
Upon completion, trains on this route will be able to reach speeds of up to 120 km/h. This initiative represents a crucial advancement in Albania’s efforts to modernize its railway infrastructure, enhance regional connectivity, and comply with EU transport and environmental standards.
