Dendermonde (Eurotoday) – A man in Dendermonde has been sentenced to two years in prison, fined €8,000, and handed a five-year driving ban after racking up 20 convictions, including 11 for driving under the influence. The judge cited concerns for public safety in delivering the verdict.
In Dendermonde, the man was handed a two-year jail term as part of a decisive response to his long-standing criminal behaviour. Among his 20 convictions, 11 involved drunk driving, while the remaining eight were for various other offences. His persistent disregard for the law prompted the court to impose a significantly harsher sentence this time around.
How many convictions does it take to stop a dangerous driver?
The court expressed frustration with the man’s repeated offences during the trial, ultimately concluding that incarceration was the only viable measure to protect the public. The presiding judge emphasised the seriousness of the case and the ineffectiveness of previous attempts at leniency or alternative punishments. Given his repeated convictions, the judge stated there was no option left but imprisonment.
The Dendermonde police judge made it clear that the man’s pattern of endangering the public could no longer be tolerated. The judge stated,
“A prison sentence is the only way to stop you from driving drunk again.”
The gravity of the situation was underscored throughout the ruling. This was not an isolated lapse in judgment, but rather a continued pattern of dangerous behaviour. Despite multiple prior sanctions, the offender persisted in driving under the influence—endangering both himself and others.
In addition to the two-year prison term, the court imposed a five-year driving ban and declared the offender unfit to operate a vehicle. He was also fined €8,000. The court sent a clear message that repeated endangerment on the roads would not be tolerated and that serious consequences await those who show consistent disregard for traffic laws.

Looks like Dendermonde’s finest has finally cracked the secret to a long-lasting holiday—two years in the slammer, all expenses paid! 🎉 Who needs a driving license when you can have a deluxe prison cell instead, eh? 😂

You’d think after the first ten tickets, he’d have figured out that “driving under the influence” doesn’t mean driving while enjoying a pint. 🍻 Two years and an €8,000 fine? Sounds like a bargain for a masterclass in poor decision-making! 😂

So, two years for 20 convictions, eh? Guess he really nailed the “repeat offender” audition – maybe next time he’ll go for an Oscar instead of a driving license! 🍷🚗💨

Isn’t it charming how some folks just can’t take a hint after 20 trips to the courtroom? 🍷🚗 Two years in the slammer seems a tad harsh for someone who clearly just wanted to be the life of the road party!

Seems our friend from Dendermonde has really taken “practice makes perfect” to heart—20 convictions later, and still not a clue! 🚗💨 Maybe next time, he should consider a more traditional hobby, like knitting or birdwatching! 🐦🧶

Only in Dendermonde can you rack up 20 convictions and still think you’re just a misunderstood artist in the world of drunk driving. 😂 Two years in the slammer? Sounds like a fitting holiday for someone who clearly enjoys a different kind of road trip! 🥂🚗💨

Looks like our friend from Dendermonde finally found the only thing harder than his head—his prison sentence! 🤷♂️ At this rate, he should just run for mayor; clearly, he’s familiar with the roads and the law… or lack thereof! 😂🚔

Oh, brilliant! Who knew 20 convictions could lead to such a *short* holiday in prison? I suppose he was just trying to set a world record for collecting legal fines instead of stamps! 🚔💸
