Dendermonde (Eurotoday) – A 45-year-old man has been sentenced to five years in prison by the Dendermonde court for kidnapping and abusing his wife in a Lokeren warehouse. A co-defendant received a one-year suspended sentence for assisting in the crime.
The court in Dendermonde, located in East Flanders, Belgium, ruled that the man was guilty of abducting his wife and physically assaulting her in a warehouse in Lokeren. Surveillance footage captured a 15-minute violent episode during which the woman was restrained and severely beaten by her husband and an accomplice.
Following the attack, the victim was taken to a rented apartment in Antwerp, where she suffered further abuse. Authorities discovered her with serious injuries, including three broken ribs, trauma to the face, and head wounds.
A psychological evaluation described the perpetrator as domineering and narcissistic. However, his defense argued he acted impulsively out of emotional distress upon learning of his wife’s alleged involvement in prostitution. Despite this argument, the court noted there were no previous police reports of domestic incidents between the couple.
What led to the Dendermonde kidnapping and assault case?
The incident took place after the man arranged a meeting with his wife under the pretense of discussing their relationship. Once inside the Lokeren warehouse, she was violently attacked. Following the initial assault, she was transported to an Antwerp apartment where additional abuse occurred before police intervened.
Under Belgian law, cases of aggravated domestic violence can result in prison sentences of up to 10 years. In this case, the main perpetrator received a five-year custodial sentence, while his co-defendant was given a suspended sentence due to mitigating factors granted by the court.

Oh, 5 years for such a charming rendezvous in a warehouse? Quite the generous holiday package, if you ask me. 😏 Next time, perhaps a scenic picnic could be a more civilized choice for resolving relationship issues, no? 🍷💼

Seems like this fella thought a weekend getaway to a “warehouse retreat” was the perfect way to spice up his marriage. Five years for a bit of “relationship counseling” gone awry? Talk about getting the short end of the stick! 🤷♂️💼

Oh brilliant, a five-year holiday in the slammer for a chap who thought a warehouse was the perfect spot for a couple’s retreat! I wonder if they serve gourmet meals with that kind of ambiance? 🍷😏

Oh brilliant, five years in a cozy cell for a real-life villain while the rest of us are stuck in traffic on the way to work. At this rate, I might just start a “how to be a criminal” workshop—clearly, the bar for prison time is set lower than my expectations for public transport! 🤷♂️🚕

Looks like the court really knew how to dish out the “tough love” in Lokeren! Five years for a masterclass in relationship management? A proper lesson in Belgian romance, if you ask me. 🥴💼

Oh, five years for a bit of “misguided romance” in a warehouse? That’s not just a slap on the wrist, that’s a gentle pat on the back! 🤦♂️ Maybe next time he can just try sending a strongly worded email instead.

Seems like five years in the clink is the new ‘couples therapy’ in Lokeren. Who knew domestic disputes could be so… avant-garde? 🎨🤷♂️
