De Watergroep Completes Sint-Truiden Koekestraat Water Pipeline

Sint-Truiden (Eurotoday) – In Sint-Truiden, the Water group completed the final Koekestraat water pipeline connection early on August 26, 2025, after APC resumed works, ensuring a reliable supply amid drought conditions.

As VRT News reported, in Sint-Truiden, the Water Group is finalising the water pipeline project near Koekestraat. The project involves installing a new pipeline. Today, Aug 26, 2025, workers completed the final connection earlier than planned to prevent any interruptions in the water supply.

What led De Watergroep to complete the Koekestraat pipeline early in Sint-Truiden?

Officials indicated that water use has increased due to hotter conditions and lower rainfall, which has placed additional strain on the supply. The early completion of the pipeline is a precautionary measure to avoid a shortage situation.

In Sint-Truiden, De Watergroep is completing the final stage of a major water project at the corner of Koekestraat and Naamsevest. The work involves the last connection in a network where new water pipes have already been installed throughout the neighbourhood.

The operation will continue throughout the day, and for safety reasons, the first section of Koekestraat is temporarily closed to all traffic, including pedestrians and cyclists. A large container has been placed in the work area.

Residents have been personally informed about the work in advance so they can plan accordingly. De Watergroep emphasised that the measures are essential to complete the final connection safely and efficiently.

The water pipeline project in Sint-Truiden’s Koekestraat started in January 2025. APC, which was commissioned to do the work by De Watergroep, began transferring household connections from the old water line to the new water line on April 22, 2025.

However, the works were stopped the same day by the mayor due to no permits being organised on behalf of the contractor, and prior notice was not given to residents. Following this, the project resumed with proper approvals and communication.

On August 21, 2025, a planned water supply interruption occurred in Koekestraat, affecting all addresses from 4 to 82, as part of the final connection work. The project was completed on August 26, 2025, with the final connection made early to prevent water supply problems in the area.

Typical, isn’t it? Just when you thought the only thing we were short on this summer was sun, they go and build a pipeline instead of just handing out bottles of water. 💧🍻

Just what we needed, a brand-new water pipeline – because clearly, the last one was just a decorative feature. 💧 Cheers to early completions, now let’s hope they don’t run out of juice when the tourists come! 😂

Oh joy, an early completion of a water pipeline! Just what we needed to distract us from the eternal drought—because nothing says “we care” like rushing to install pipes before we all turn into cacti. 🌵💧
