Danish Youth Cannabis Use Declines Amid Successful Education Campaigns

KNGNEWSWIRE / PRESS RELEASE / Children from “Truth About Drugs Denmark” spearhead major cannabis awareness campaign amid decline in national youth drug use

COPENHAGEN, Denmark (November 2025) – In 2025, young volunteers in Denmark spearheaded a significant campaign against drug abuse. Children and teens from Truth About Drugs Denmark enlisted over 500 shopkeepers in Copenhagen to distribute The Truth About Drugs educational booklets. This initiative is part of a long-standing campaign supported by the Church of Scientology to promote drug-free living in Denmark.

Youth-Led Street Outreach Turns Shops into Education Points

Young volunteers, aged 10 to 20, canvassed Copenhagen neighborhoods, urging businesses to provide factual drug information to the public. Over 500 businesses now display booklets at checkout counters, engaging customers about substance use.

Giulia, a public affairs advisor, stated, “They are showing adults they care about our future—and are taking responsibility for it.”

The materials, created by the Foundation for a Drug-Free World, are secular and fact-based, covering drugs like cannabis, ecstasy, cocaine, and alcohol. The campaign aims to help people make informed decisions. One teenage volunteer said: “This is about saving lives, not religion. We want people to know what drugs really do.”

Youth Cannabis Use Down Sharply in Denmark

The campaign aligns with national data showing a significant drop in cannabis use among Danish youth. A November 2025 report by the Center for Rusmiddelforskning indicates that cannabis use among 15–25-year-olds fell from 44% in 2014 to 31.6% in 2025, with a sharper decline among young men—from 51% to 34%.

Researcher Kirsten Frederiksen noted in a DR article, “There is simply more awareness and caution today. The risk appetite isn’t as high as it used to be.”

Researchers credit broad dissemination of drug education materials for this shift, highlighting the success of prevention campaigns like the Copenhagen outreach.

A Longstanding Scientology-Supported Effort

This project builds on over 30 years of drug education by the Church of Scientology in Denmark. Since 1991, Scientology volunteers have distributed Truth About Drugs materials at major events and in public spaces.

The campaign reflects Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard’s view that “the single most destructive element present in our current culture is drugs.” Inspired by this principle, the Church supports drug education projects worldwide through its partnership with the Foundation for a Drug-Free World.

“They Are Already Changing the World”

European institutions increasingly recognize the value of youth-led prevention. Ivan Arjona, the Church of Scientology’s EU representative, emphasized the campaign’s broader importance:

“Meaningful youth participation isn’t a fairy tale. It’s a blueprint for building resilient communities — one booklet and one conversation at a time. These young people are not waiting for permission to change the world… They are already doing it.”

By turning local shops into knowledge centers and empowering young voices, the campaign shows how community engagement and evidence-based education can reshape attitudes and behaviors without stigma or coercion.

About the Church of Scientology

The Church of Scientology and its affiliated organizations are active across Europe. Recognized as a charitable religion in multiple countries, the Church is dedicated to long-term education, prevention, and community betterment initiatives, focusing on drug prevention, human rights, and moral values education.

Isn’t it just delightful when kids take the reins on something as trivial as drug education? I mean, who needs boring adults when you have 10-year-olds schooling shopkeepers on the dangers of cannabis? 😏💼

  6. Seems like the Danish youth are mastering the art of avoiding cannabis while simultaneously distributing booklets—who knew education could be the real buzzkill? 😂
