Czech Republic to Oppose Suspension of EU-Israel Association Agreement, Says Lipavský to Saar

Prague – Today, Minister of Foreign Affairs Jan Lipavský (independent, candidate for Spolu) spoke via phone with his Israeli counterpart Gideon Sa’ar. Lipavský reassured him that the Czech Republic will oppose any suspension of the association agreement between the European Union and Israel. He communicated this on X.

“I conveyed my hope for a swift end to the war in Gaza and an improvement in the humanitarian situation,” the minister remarked. The discussion included the potential suspension of the association agreement between the EU and Israel. “I assured him that the Czech Republic firmly opposes this – it is not in the EU’s interest to diminish its influence in the region,” Lipavský added.

Last week, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced plans for sanctions against extremist Israeli ministers and settlers from the occupied West Bank, including a partial suspension of the association agreement with Israel. Lipavský commented that these proposals are not new and lack support within the EU.

On Thursday, Members of the European Parliament approved a resolution condemning the Israeli humanitarian blockade of the Palestinian Gaza Strip, which they claim has led to famine. MEPs stated that Israel’s right to self-defense does not justify military actions that fail to distinguish between targets, resulting in immense suffering for civilians. The resolution also denounces the actions of the terrorist group Hamas as barbaric, calling for the immediate release of all Israeli hostages held by Hamas and its allies in Gaza.

The conflict in the Gaza Strip began in October 2023, following Israel’s military offensive in response to an attack by Hamas and its allies, during which militants killed approximately 1,200 people in southern Israel and took another 251 hostage. Current data from the Ministry of Health in Gaza, controlled by Hamas, reports at least 64,905 Palestinians killed in Israeli strikes since the war commenced, according to AFP. The UN considers these figures, which do not differentiate between civilians and militants, reliable, indicating that most victims are civilians. (September 16)

Looks like the Czech Republic is going full-on ‘keep calm and carry on’ mode with this one, ensuring the EU doesn’t forget who the real boss is in the regional drama. Guess some countries just can’t resist a good old-fashioned diplomatic tango, eh? 💼💃

Just what we need, a country that’s the EU’s version of that one friend who never knows when to leave the party. 🙄 I guess opposing a little suspension is easier than actually addressing the real issues, eh?

Seems like Minister Lipavský thinks he’s the life of the EU party, opposing sanctions like a true diplomatic superhero. Perhaps he believes the only influence worth keeping is his own at the bar! 🍻

  4. Sure, because nothing says “let’s maintain our influence” like ignoring the humanitarian crisis while giving a big thumbs up to an association agreement. Classic Czech diplomacy, eh? 🤷‍♂️

Looks like Lipavský’s got his hands full trying to keep the EU-Israel love affair alive—because nothing says “diplomacy” like opposing sanctions while the world is in chaos. Bravo, mate! 👏

So, let me get this straight—Czech Republic is standing firm against suspending an agreement while the rest of Europe tries to figure out if they’re more pro-peace or pro-political posturing? Classic! 😂 #DiplomaticDilemmas

Seems like Lipavský is auditioning for the role of the EU’s most loyal lapdog—who knew diplomacy came with a side of stubbornness and a sprinkle of drama? 🤷‍♂️ #CzechMate

Seems like someone’s trying to be the EU’s knight in shining armor while the rest of us are just trying to keep our capes wrinkle-free. Who needs influence when you’ve got a phone call? 😂

Looks like Minister Lipavský is playing the classic game of diplomacy – you know, the one where you assure your buddy you won’t rock the boat while the rest of us are just waiting for the kettle to boil.🥴 Just what we needed, another round of “let’s pretend everything’s fine.”

Oh, lovely, nothing like a good old diplomatic chat to remind us that sticking to outdated agreements is the real way to make a difference in the world. Bravo, Lipavský, you’re really showing those extremists how to play the long game! 😂

  12. Another day, another diplomatic dance from the Czech Republic—who knew opposing an EU suspension was the new trend? 🕺 Let’s see how that goes when the bar tab comes due! 🍻

So, the Czech Republic is playing the “let’s not rock the boat” game with Israel – brilliant strategy, mate! I mean, who needs to stand up for humanitarian values when you can just keep the good ol’ association agreement rolling like a well-oiled machine? 😂

Seems the Czech Republic has decided to play the EU’s favorite game: “Let’s oppose everything while sipping on a nice pilsner.” 🍻 Who knew diplomacy could be so refreshing?

Looks like the Czech Republic is all in for keeping the EU-Israel love fest alive, even if it means ignoring a bit of humanitarian chaos. 🌍 You know, business as usual in Brussels – who needs a moral compass when you’ve got influence to maintain? 😂
