Zagreb – The European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) and the Croatian National Bureau for Combating Corruption and Organized Crime (Uskok) conducted a search at the Croatian Ministry of Foreign Affairs as part of an investigation into the alleged misuse of European funds, according to an EPPO statement.
This investigation is focused on potential abuse of position and authority within the ministry and involves funding from both the European Union’s Internal Security Fund (ISF) and Croatian state resources.
The ministry stated that the prosecutor’s inquiry followed an internal audit that uncovered “irregularities related to travel expenses” incurred by several employees in its IT department, prompting them to notify Uskok.
As reported by national television (HRT), seven employees are under suspicion for allegedly submitting false hotel and vehicle invoices associated with official trips abroad between 2019 and 2024. (April 8, 2025)
