Regarding the cyberattacks that impacted check-in systems at Brussels, Berlin, and London airports, Commission spokesperson Thomas Renier stated, “The Commission is collaborating with the European Union Agency for Cybersecurity, under ENISA, alongside national authorities, airports, and airlines to restore services and assist passengers.”
He highlighted the presence of hybrid threats and possible attacks on EU transportation, stressing the need for member states to remain alert and guided by the new European cybersecurity directive. “This incident reaffirms the critical need for full implementation of the NIS2 directive in cybersecurity. The NIS2 (Network and Information Security Directive 2) identifies aviation and transport as sectors of high importance. We urge all member states to promptly and efficiently integrate the NIS2 directive into their regulatory frameworks,” he asserted. (22/9/25)
