Bulgaria Experiences Highest Immigration Growth in Europe

South Korea Leads Global Growth in Immigrant Numbers, Bulgaria Tops in Europe

A recent study conducted by William Russell reveals that South Korea experienced the largest increase in immigrant numbers globally, while Bulgaria holds the top spot in Europe.

The ranking, based on data comparing immigrant populations from 1990 to 2020, highlights the countries with the most significant surges in immigration over this period.

Immigrant Growth in South Korea and South America

The study shows that the number of immigrants in South Korea skyrocketed from 43,000 in 1990 to over 1.7 million by 2020. This represents an astounding growth rate of 3,896%, the highest in the world.

Colombia ranks second globally, with its immigrant population growing from 104,000 in 1990 to 1.9 million in 2020, marking an increase of 1,727%. Chile also saw a dramatic rise, placing third on the list. The number of immigrants in Chile surged from 104,000 to 1.6 million over the same period, an increase of 1,430%.

Bulgaria Leads Europe

Bulgaria ranks fourth worldwide but takes the top spot in Europe. The immigrant population in the country rose from 21,000 in 1990 to 184,000 in 2020, reflecting a growth of 757%.

Spain, which ranks fifth overall, also experienced a significant jump in immigrant numbers. By 2020, Spain had 6.8 million immigrants, up from 821,000 in 1990, representing a 732% increase.

The Bigger Picture

Although South Korea does not have the highest absolute number of immigrants globally, its growth rate since 1990 is unmatched. William Russell’s analysis points out that South Korea’s immigrant population has surged by more than 3,800% in just 30 years, marking a substantial demographic shift.

Well, well, look who’s suddenly the hottest destination in Europe—Bulgaria! Who knew that becoming the coolest kid on the block meant offering a healthy dose of “cheap plovdiv” and a side of “let’s play the guessing game with the language”? As they say in the Balkans, “Better late than never, mate!” Just don’t forget to bring your own sunblock for those beachside “business meetings.”

  2. Well, isn’t that just peachy? Bulgaria, the land where you can sip rakia while contemplating your life choices, is now the hotspot for immigration growth in Europe. One can only wonder if all those newcomers are just here for the stunning sea views or if they’ve heard the secret that it’s the best place to practice their Bulgarian. Cheers to the new arrivals—let’s hope they like the local cuisine!

Ah, Bulgaria—the new hotspot for immigrants seeking a taste of authentic Eastern European charm, or perhaps just a more affordable pint of beer. Who knew that trading in a dreary workweek for a vibrant life of “let’s sit in a café and discuss the weather” would be so enticing? With all these newcomers flocking in, it seems Sofia might just become the next hipster capital of Europe—watch out, Berlin!

Ah, Bulgaria, the new darling of immigration growth in Europe—who knew a country famous for yogurt and roses would also become the hottest ticket in town? One might say it’s a bit like finding out your great-aunt’s attic is filled with vintage designer handbags; who wouldn’t want to rummage through that? It seems everyone’s packing their bags for a slice of the Bulgarian pie—just don’t forget to bring your own sunblock!
