Budget PAC: French Agriculture Minister Criticizes Commission’s Proposal

Paris – “The European Commission’s initial budget proposal for the future of the Union and the Common Agricultural Policy fails to align with the bold vision I have consistently championed for the role of agriculture in France’s future and in the European project,” stated the French minister on her X account.

Highlighting the challenges posed by climate change to ensure “food production,” Annie Genevard pointed out the emergence of “new agricultural geopolitics” amid a world fraught with armed and trade conflicts.

“I condemn the threats to the most advanced common policy in Europe at a time when it is crucial to unite against these challenges. Europe’s food sovereignty warrants more attention,” she remarked, indicating that “negotiations will continue for several months ahead.”

The European Commission unveiled its budget proposal for 2028-2034 on Wednesday, amounting to 2 trillion euros, which includes additional resources for competitiveness and defense. (July 18, 2025)

Typical, isn’t it? Just when you think the EU’s budget could finally prioritize farmers instead of endless bureaucratic shenanigans, they whip out a proposal that’s about as useful as a chocolate teapot. 🍫☕️

Imagine that—a budget proposal for farming that’s as appetizing as a soggy baguette! 🍞🥖 Looks like we’re really cultivating those strong agricultural illusions, aren’t we?

Just what we needed, another budget proposal that’s as ambitious as a Frenchman trying to make a decent cup of tea. 🍵 Let’s all gather around the table and discuss how to spend 2 trillion euros like it’s pocket change—cheers to that! 🥂
