Hundreds of parishioners gather for an anniversary service, music, and a decade retrospective at the Budapest Ideal Church, which has hosted drug-prevention, human-rights, humanitarian, and interfaith activities.
BUDAPEST, Hungary — 11 August 2026 — Marking 35 years of expansion and 10 years since the grand opening of their Ideal Church, hundreds of Scientologists gathered at the Church of Scientology in Hungary on Váci Road, Budapest, to celebrate a decade integrating religious life with community, educational, and interfaith activities.
The event included a religious service, live music, a retrospective of the last decade through photos and videos, and a presentation outlining future plans. After the formal program, guests enjoyed traditional Hungarian food while discussing milestones in the Scientology community’s development, especially since the ideal worship place opened in 2016.
The Váci Road church was dedicated on 23 July 2016 in Budapest’s District XIII. Mr David Miscavige, ecclesiastical leader of Scientology, officiated at the opening of the Budapest Church of Scientology, attended by Scientologists from Hungary and other Central and Eastern European countries.
The six-storey building is an Ideal Org, a term in Scientology for a church designed to offer a full range of religious services and facilities for public information, educational efforts, and community programs.
This opening marked an important stage in Hungarian Scientology history, which began in the late 1980s. Tamás Nagy and Kornél Varga, after encountering Scientology abroad, returned to Hungary to help organize the community, leading to the Church of Scientology’s formal establishment in Hungary in 1991.
Over the decades, the community developed nationwide activities, culminating in the Váci Road headquarters.
The building houses spaces for Scientology religious training and spiritual counseling, as well as classrooms, meeting areas, a chapel, and a public information center.
On the ground floor, visitors can explore the “What Is Scientology?” audiovisual exhibition, which features hundreds of videos on Scientology beliefs and practices, L. Ron Hubbard’s life and work, and the religion’s humanitarian and social initiatives.
The first floor offers facilities for studying Scientology approaches to everyday life, while other floors are used for ministerial training and auditing, a form of spiritual counseling in Scientology. The top floor chapel can accommodate nearly 300 people for services and other events.
Since opening, thousands have visited the Váci Road building, including non-Scientologists. Open-house events teach the public about the religion and its activities, and the venue hosts drug-prevention conferences, human rights events, humanitarian meetings, and Holocaust remembrance programs.
Twice a year, the church organizes interfaith dialogue gatherings for representatives of various religious traditions, highlighting shared values, peaceful coexistence, and the positive societal contributions of religious diversity.
