BRUSSELS – Trump issued a warning on the Truth Social platform regarding potential import tariffs and export restrictions on nations that impose extra taxes on American tech firms or subject them to specialized regulations.
In recent years, the EU has enforced stricter regulations on tech companies, including penalties for American firms like Apple, Meta, and Alphabet. A spokesperson stated that the EU has “the right to regulate economic activities that reflect our democratic values.”
According to the spokesperson, the trade agreement on import tariffs finalized between the US and the EU this summer did not include specific provisions for tech companies. The EU intends to proceed with the implementation of the trade agreement as planned and anticipates the US will do the same.
