Antwerp (Eurotoday): An explosion occurred at Habitim Tower, Linkeroever, Antwerp, around 2:30 AM, causing significant damage but no injuries. A resident linked it to local drug issues and possible revenge. Police are investigating and reviewing the footage.
An explosion happened on 25 November around 2:30 AM at Habitim Tower in Linkeroever, Antwerp. A resident who was watching football saw a cyclist stop and go inside wearing a hood. Suddenly, there was a loud bang and a bright flash. The explosion caused a lot of damage, with the front of the building destroyed and mailboxes on fire. The fire brigade and police arrived quickly. The resident said, “It was such a loud bang; I thought the harbor had exploded.”
What caused the explosion at Habitim Tower in Antwerp?
The resident believes the explosion might be connected to drug issues in the area, noting that drug dealing has been common and there have been recent arrests. They suspect it could be a revenge attack. No one was injured, but it was a near miss, as someone checked their mailbox and a woman walked her dog just before the blast.
The police launched an investigation into the explosion, checking the area immediately after the incident for any suspicious individuals but nothing was found. They are reviewing camera footage and interviewing witnesses, with assistance from the explosives disposal team and the federal police lab. While a resident suspects a drug connection, the police are exploring all possibilities, noting that the building houses 140 residents and the search for the attacker continues.
