The athletics track at the old Stedelijk Administratief Centrum is now accessible to the public. Jessie De Weyer, the Alderman for Sports, stated that this project aims to promote physical activity. He highlighted that the track is suitable for both experienced runners and beginners. It provides a safe space to train without concerns about traffic or uneven terrain. Many individual runners and local sports teams will benefit from this new facility for practice.
Where can runners in Beringen train safely year-round?
The athletics track will also host the Start2Run program, launching on Thursday, February 13, 2025. According to officials, this program guides participants from beginner level to running a 5-kilometer distance. It includes training sessions, expert advice, and support through the Start2Run app.
Officials noted that this initiative makes it easy for everyone to participate, regardless of their fitness level. With this new track, Beringen is enhancing its sports facilities and encouraging a healthier lifestyle for its residents.

The athletics track at the old Stedelijk Administratief Centrum in Beringen is open all year and designed for use even during winter. The track is equipped with lighting that operates from 6:00 to 9:00 in the morning and from 17:00 to 23:00 in the evening. This ensures runners can train safely even in low-light conditions. Alderman for Sports, Jessie De Weyer, highlighted that this feature makes the track an excellent choice for athletes. It remains well-maintained and easily accessible throughout the year.
“The track is lit from 6 to 9 am and from 5 to 11 pm,”
De Weyer notes.
“Which means that runners can also make optimal use of the athletics track during the winter months.”
Officials emphasized that the athletics track in Beringen offers numerous advantages for runners of all levels. It features a flat surface designed to enhance safety and reduce the risk of injury. They noted that the inner track measures 311 meters, while the outer track is 337 meters long. Officials highlighted that with its public access and these features, the track is a valuable resource for both casual and competitive runners in the region.
