Authorities Confiscate 700 Cannabis Plants in Tongeren-Borgloon

Tongeren-Borgloon (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Police in Limburg uncovered a 700-plant cannabis farm in Tongeren-Borgloon on Monday, Sep 29, 2025. 5 Albanians were arrested, €45,000 and 2 vehicles were seized. Haspengouw and Limburg Capital Region police led raids, with Fluvius and civil protection assisting.

As VRT News reported, police in Tongeren-Borgloon, in the province of Limburg, Belgium, discovered a large cannabis plantation during raids on Monday, Sep 29, 2025. The operation was led by the Haspengouw police zone together with the special assistance team of the Limburg Capital Region police zone.

3 houses were searched in Tongeren-Borgloon and Wellen as part of an ongoing investigation into illegal cannabis cultivation. At a property in Hopertingen, authorities found around 700 cannabis plants or cuttings. The plantation was built in a professional manner and occupied the attic and parts of the first floor.

Who was behind Limburg’s 700-plant cannabis bust and major arrests?

3 people were in the house when the raid took place. Police seized the plants and all equipment used for growing cannabis. Investigators are working to identify the roles of the people involved. Forensic checks on the seized plants and equipment will provide further information.

Civil protection teams and Fluvius spent several hours securing and clearing a house after a police operation in Limburg. During the search, authorities discovered signs of power theft at the property. Police also seized around €45,000 in cash and had 2 vehicles towed.

5 people were arrested in connection with the case. All the suspects are of Albanian descent or nationality. They were brought before an investigating judge, who decided to detain 4 of them. 1 suspect was released on bail. Police said the arrests are part of a larger effort to fight organised cannabis cultivation and other criminal activity in the region.

Over the past years, Limburg and other areas in Belgium have experienced a number of large cannabis seizures. On January 27, 2016, when police took down a growing operation of 1,000 cannabis plants in Maasdorp Kotem, Maasmechelen. The investigation revealed illegal installations to support the operation’s electricity demand.

On May 17, 2025, police discovered another growing operation in Lier. 3 months later, on August 7, 2025, 1,225 cannabis plants were seized during a large seizure, which took place in Sint-Pieters-Leeuw.

Seems like the folks in Tongeren-Borgloon were just trying to cultivate some “green thumbs” for a change, eh? Bet they thought they’d be the next cannabis entrepreneurs, but now it’s just a case of ‘plant and be planted’ 😂💸.

Looks like someone’s really taken the phrase “grow your own” to heart, eh? Guess it’s a bit hard to keep it under the radar when your “greenhouse” is practically a mansion! 😂

Typical Limburg, turning an attic into a green paradise and still getting caught. Who knew it took a whole police squad to discover someone’s “home improvement project”? 😂💰

Looks like the locals in Tongeren-Borgloon decided to go all-in on the ‘green gold’ trend – 700 plants, and all they got was a one-way ticket to the slammer and a hefty electric bill. 🇧🇪💸 Must’ve thought they were growing vegetables for the next Brussels salad bar! 🥗✨

Aye, 700 plants in Tongeren-Borgloon? Must’ve thought they were starting a botanical garden instead of a criminal enterprise! 🍃💸 #CultivationGoals

  8. Well, isn’t that just peachy? I suppose having a 700-plant cannabis farm in your attic is the new way to get ahead in Limburg—forget stocks, it’s all about those green dreams! 😂💸

Seems like the local green thumb got a bit too ambitious this time, eh? Guess they forgot that “growing the business” doesn’t include 700 cannabis plants in the attic. 🏠💸

Looks like the boys in Tongeren-Borgloon took their gardening a bit too seriously, eh? 🚜🌿 Maybe next time they’ll stick to houseplants and leave the green thumbs for the legal market. 😂

Looks like the local green thumbs took “growing the economy” a tad too literally! 🍃💸 Just what the region needed, a new advert for the “high” life, eh?
