After emergency responders arrived at the scene, another strike was launched, specifically targeting rescuers, according to officials. “This is a cruel and inhumane tactic of intimidation that Russian forces frequently employ,” the statement added.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that eight apartment buildings, an administrative facility, and a fire truck sustained damage in the attack.
The latest Russian airstrikes follow a major assault on Ukraine, during which Russian forces launched 67 missiles and 194 drones on Friday. The attacks primarily targeted energy and civilian infrastructure, marking the Kremlin’s largest bombardment since the U.S. halted military aid and intelligence-sharing with Kyiv.
Washington decided to suspend aid and intelligence support to Ukraine following a public dispute between U.S. President Donald Trump and Zelenskyy during a White House meeting on February 28.
On Friday, the U.S. National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency also announced it had stopped providing satellite imagery to Ukraine. The Ukrainian military had been using this intelligence to monitor Russian troop movements and assess infrastructure damage, according to the defense publication Militarnyi.
