BRUSSELS – Apple has claimed that the Digital Markets Act (DMA) results in a “worse experience for Apple users in the EU” and poses security risks.
In a formal submission to the European Commission, Apple urged the withdrawal of the DMA until a more appropriate legislative solution is created.
The legislation requires app developers to inform users about alternative app stores and offers available outside the Apple App Store. However, Apple argues that allowing the download of alternative app stores introduces security vulnerabilities.
The company has also reported an increase in user complaints regarding changes made to comply with DMA mandates, though it has not revealed the number of complaints received.
Earlier this year, Apple was fined 500 million euros by Brussels for breaching the DMA, with the Commission accusing the company of restricting app distribution to its own store. Apple has appealed the decision, asserting that both the ruling and the fine exceed the legal requirements.
