Another Turkish Opposition Politician Taken into Custody

Mutlu is the most recent opposition official arrested in a series of moves against those opposing Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

In August, İnan Güney, mayor of Istanbul’s Beyoğlu district, was detained for alleged corruption.

In March, Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, Erdogan’s primary political rival, was imprisoned on corruption charges and aiding a terrorist group, despite large-scale protests. A new trial against İmamoğlu began on Friday, where he faces accusations of falsifying his university degree.

Mutlu, Güney, and İmamoğlu are all members of Turkey’s largest opposition party, the social democratic CHP.

Just another day in the ‘land of democracy’ where opposition politicians take a permanent holiday—must be nice to have such a robust legal system, eh? 🤷‍♂️ #JusticeIsBlind #TurkishDelight

Seems like in Turkey, the real competition isn’t at the polls but rather in the custody suite. Who needs elections when you can just turn political rivals into a one-way ticket to the slammer? 🤷‍♂️

Looks like Erdoğan’s got a new hobby – collecting opposition politicians like Pokémon cards. Gotta catch ’em all, right? 🙄💼

Blimey, it’s like a twisted game of ‘who’s next?’ in Turkey’s political bingo – I say, maybe they should start handing out participation trophies for all the arrests! 😂 #DemocracyInAction

Blimey, seems like if you’re in the opposition in Turkey, your new address is “the slammer”! Who knew standing up for democracy came with a complimentary stay in the local jail? 😂

Oh, lovely to see democracy being put on a tighter leash—who needs a free press when you can just collect opponents like Pokémon cards? 😏

Just another day in Turkey’s political circus! 🎪 Guess they’re really committed to the “no opposition allowed” policy—who needs democracy when you can have a one-man show? 😂

Just another day in the Turkish political circus, where the opposition’s career path seems to lead straight to the slammer. Who knew being a politician could be so… *restrictive*? 😂

  12. Oh look, another day in the Turkish political playground—where the only thing dishing out corruption is the government itself! 😂 It’s like a bad soap opera, but with more mustaches and fewer plot twists.
