A senior Ukrainian official informed POLITICO about an incident involving Angelina Jolie’s entourage and local military recruiters at a checkpoint. Ukrainian authorities are still investigating the details. The official mentioned that Jolie did not notify the Ukrainian government about her visit and entered on foot.
Separately, the Ukrainian Army Land Forces initially released a statement detailing the incident, noting that Jolie’s driver was drafted, but later retracted the statement and neither confirmed nor denied the details.
They commented, “The information circulating in the media is distorted, an investigation is ongoing, and all circumstances are being clarified.”
The Mykolaiv regional military recruitment office confirmed to POLITICO that Jolie’s driver was a military reservist ordered to attend retraining.
Jolie’s representative declined to comment.
Local news outlet Nikvesti shared a video of Jolie in the Mykolaiv region, with rampant social media speculation following the incident on Wednesday.
