Algeciras Mayor Expresses Concern Over Gibraltar Agreement Being Kept Secret

Algeciras (Cádiz) ** The mayor of Algeciras and president of the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee, José Ignacio Landaluce (PP), has expressed concern that the Gibraltar agreement “remains undisclosed,” leaving the Campo de Gibraltar region feeling like a “silent participant in the negotiations.”

Landaluce’s remarks followed an “informal conversation” revealed between Gibraltar’s Chief Minister, Fabian Picardo, and the Attorney General of the British colony, Michael Llamas, discussing the future treaty document.

“Our suspicions are confirmed that the details of the Gibraltar agreement will remain hidden from those of us who share this territory on a daily basis, and it is clear that the Campo de Gibraltar region is sidelined in the negotiations,” Landaluce stated.

He reminded that the region has repeatedly sought clarity on the “political agreement” and any advances in drafting the actual agreement. “All we have received from the Spanish Government officials, particularly from Foreign Affairs Minister José Manuel Albares, are appeals for calm and assurances of progress on a document that would cater to Spain’s interests. However, it is evident that these messages serve only to distract and buy time, without revealing the true contents of the agreements reached between the European Union and the United Kingdom,” he added.

Landaluce noted that the existence of a text referenced by Picardo and Llamas, without a firm position on the matter, suggests that its 250-page content mostly aligns with their demands, which starkly contrasts with the shared benefits sought by the Campo de Gibraltar.

“We had hoped the British Government’s unwavering commitment to the people of Gibraltar, as mentioned by Picardo, would be mirrored by the Spanish Government’s support for the Campo de Gibraltar. Instead, we have only received vague reassurances that fail to address crucial issues affecting the economic future of a region historically under the shadow of a colony, and a poor agreement could leave us at a disadvantage,” he asserted.

The mayor of Algeciras concluded by emphasizing the necessity of having the same information as the other parties involved, as the future of the region and upcoming generations is at stake. (October 24)

Oh, so the Campo de Gibraltar is just a “silent participant” now, eh? Sounds like a classic case of the left hand not knowing what the right is doing… or maybe the right is just too busy enjoying a cuppa in a secret meeting. 🫖😂

Typical, isn’t it? While we’re here scratching our heads in the dark, the big wigs are having their cozy little chats over tea—cheers to transparency, right? 🍵🙄

  3. Isn’t it charming how the Campo de Gibraltar is left in the dark while the big boys play their secret game? 🤔 Just what we need—more “vague reassurances” to fuel our daily gossip! 🥴

Seems like Algeciras is getting the same treatment as last week’s leftover tapas—ignored and left to fester while the real feast happens elsewhere. 🍽️ Bravo, lads! Keep the secrets flowing! 😏

Gotta love how the folks in charge think keeping things hush-hush is the best way to foster trust. It’s like throwing a party and forgetting to invite half the guests—classic diplomacy, innit? 🤷‍♂️

Seems like our dear Mayor Landaluce is having a bit of a crisis over a secret agreement—who would’ve thought politics could be so… exclusive? 😂 I guess transparency is just another word for “I’ll tell you later, mate.”

Seems like the only thing more secretive than a James Bond plot is this Gibraltar agreement—cheers to being the silent partner at a table we weren’t even invited to! 🍷🤫

Typical, isn’t it? While the big boys in suits chat away, we’re left guessing like it’s some sort of geopolitical game show. 🎭 Bravo, gentlemen, truly!

Oh, how delightful! Secret agreements and vague reassurances – just what we need to spice up the daily grind in Campo de Gibraltar! 🙄 Maybe they’ll throw in a complimentary crystal ball so we can all guess what’s really going on.

Oh, splendid! Nothing screams transparency like a government agreement wrapped tighter than a sausage in a Vienna butcher’s shop. 🥨 If only the Campo de Gibraltar could get a peek at the 250-page mystery novel that’s apparently being written about their future! 📜

Isn’t it quaint how the Mayor thinks he’s part of the conversation when it’s clear the real deal is happening in a pub somewhere? 🍻 Just another day in the soap opera of international negotiations, eh?
