Groundbreaking Date for the Coeur d’Alene Idaho Temple

The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced that the groundbreaking ceremony for the Coeur d’Alene Idaho Temple will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026. Elder Hutch U. Fale, of the United States West Area Presidency, will preside at the event.

Over 480,000 members of the Church reside in Idaho, meeting in around 1,300 congregations. Dedicated temples in the state are the Boise Idaho Temple, Burley Idaho Temple, Idaho Falls Idaho Temple, Meridian Idaho Temple, Pocatello Idaho Temple, Rexburg Idaho Temple, and Twin Falls Idaho Temple. The Caldwell Idaho Temple has been announced, and the Teton River Idaho Temple is under construction. The Montpelier Idaho Temple will be dedicated on October 18, 2026.

The Coeur d’Alene Idaho Temple was announced in 2024.

“The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is constructing temples all over the world. Their purpose is to bless the covenant children of God with temple worship and with the sacred responsibilities and powers and unique blessings of being bound to Christ they receive by covenant,” President Dallin H. Oaks taught in a recent general conference.

Latter-day Saints consider each temple a house of the Lord and the most sacred place of worship on earth. Temples differ from the Church’s meetinghouses (chapels). All are welcome to attend Sunday worship services and other weekday activities at local meetinghouses. The primary purpose of temples is for faithful members of the Church of Jesus Christ to participate in sacred ceremonies that allow families to be united forever.
