Iran launched six ballistic missiles and 29 drones at Prince Sultan Air Base, injuring at least 15 U.S. troops, some seriously, as per the Associated Press, citing two sources familiar with the event.
The base, located about 96 kilometers from Riyadh and run by the Royal Saudi Air Force with a U.S. presence, had already been attacked twice earlier in the week. A previous attack injured 14 American personnel, escalating the total number of wounded U.S. troops at the site to over two dozen recently.
These attacks signify a notable escalation against American forces since conflicts began last month, highlighting the increased threat of a wider regional conflict. The U.S. is dispatching additional forces to the region, while European capitals are intensifying efforts to manage the economic and security repercussions.
In a video statement on Saturday, Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree announced that the rebels’ strikes aimed at “sensitive Israeli military positions,” following ongoing attacks on infrastructure in Iran, Lebanon, Iraq, and the Palestinian territories. He suggested that the assaults would persist.
An Israeli airstrike in southern Lebanon on Saturday resulted in the deaths of three journalists covering the Israel-Hezbollah conflict, according to their TV stations and Lebanese officials.
Hezbollah-affiliated al-Manar TV reported that its veteran correspondent Ali Shoeib perished in the strike. Fatima Ftouni and her brother and cameraman Mohammed Ftouni from the pro-Hezbollah network al-Mayadeen were also killed. The three were traveling together near the town of Jezzine during the attack, as reported by the outlets.
