Significant EPP Rally in Zagreb

ZAGREB – Today marks the start of a two-day informal meeting of the European People’s Party (EPP), the largest political group in Europe. State and government leaders, along with heads of European institutions, are arriving in Zagreb to discuss key issues confronting Europe and transatlantic relations in private sessions.

The gathering is hosted at the Westin hotel, organized by Croatian Prime Minister and HDZ leader Andrej Plenković and EPP President Manfred Weber.

Over 20 leaders from EPP-affiliated Christian Democratic parties are expected to attend this “EPP Leader’s Retreat,” including some opposition party leaders like Janez Janša from Slovenia’s Democratic Party.

Topics for discussion include Europe’s global role, geopolitical challenges, and the EPP’s future priorities, with a particular focus on the demographic renewal of Europe.

This annual event aims to foster informal discussions among EPP leaders, featuring closed-door talks for a more casual atmosphere. A joint declaration titled Demographic Renewal: A Strategic Imperative for Europe will be ratified on Friday, while Saturday will focus on the EPP’s political priorities. (30 January 2026)
