A silverware keeper at the Elysee Palace in Paris has been arrested for stealing silverware and porcelain, as reported by the Guardian in late December. Investigators apprehended the man and two alleged accomplices, accusing them of pilfering items from the French president’s official residence and attempting to sell them on online platforms such as Vinted. The Elysee Palace’s master of ceremonies noted the absence of these items, some classified as national heritage, with a total value reaching up to €40,000. Most of the stolen goods originated from the Sèvres Manufactory, a historic porcelain factory state-owned since 1759. The probe started when factory workers spotted some of the missing items being sold online. These thefts echo a spate of heists at the Louvre and other French museums lately, sparking worries about the insufficient security at the nation’s cultural sites.
