EU cautions Israel that halting NGOs in Gaza would hinder crucial aid delivery (commissioner)

Brussels ** “The EU has been clear,” European Commissioner Hadja Lahbib stated on her X account. “All barriers to humanitarian aid access must be removed,” she emphasized.

On Tuesday, Israel announced that NGOs operating in Gaza must submit a list of their Palestinian employees by Wednesday, or they will be prohibited from operating there in 2026. This follows accusations against two members of Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) of having “links with terrorist organizations.”

A statement from the Israeli Ministry of Diaspora Affairs and the Fight against Antisemitism indicated that organizations that do not provide the required employee list to eliminate any potential links to terrorism will have their licenses revoked starting January 1.

These organizations “will be required to cease all activities by March 1, 2026.”

In response to AFP, MSF declared that it “would never knowingly employ individuals involved in military activities” and expressed its intention to “maintain dialogue with the Israeli authorities.” (December 31, 2025)

  1. Typical, innit? Just when you think humanitarian aid can flow freely, someone decides to throw a bureaucratic wrench in the works. 🙄 What’s next, a waiting list for band-aids?

Typical EU, always looking to play superhero in a crisis while the real drama unfolds. 🤷‍♂️ Just wait until they realize that red tape doesn’t exactly deliver aid—classic!

  3. Seems like the EU’s got its hands full giving Israel a crash course in humanitarian aid – who knew diplomacy could be so much fun? 😂 Just wait ’til they start handing out grades!

  4. Seems like the EU’s got a real handle on things, eh? Maybe next they’ll suggest Israel checks the NGOs’ references like a dodgy flatmate! 😂

Seems like Israel’s new game is “Guess Who?” but with NGOs instead of board pieces. Hope they don’t take too long; Brussels is waiting with a side of sarcasm and a sprinkle of humanitarian irony! 😏

  6. Looks like the EU is handing out advice like it’s free Wi-Fi at a café – everyone’s grateful but no one’s really listening. 😏 Just hope they don’t expect a thank you note from Tel Aviv!

Looks like the EU is giving Israel a crash course in humanitarian aid, because nothing says “we care” like bureaucratic hurdles. At this rate, we might need a degree just to send a sandwich! 🥪😂

  8. Seems like the EU’s got its hands full playing referee in a game where the rules change faster than you can say “Brussels sprouts.” 🤔 Who knew delivering aid required a side of red tape and bureaucratic gymnastics?

Oh, brilliant move by Israel—nothing like a little bureaucratic tango to ensure that aid gets through, eh? Can’t wait for the next episode of “Who’s Who in Gaza: The NGO Edition!” 😂

Seems like bureaucratic red tape is the new sport in the Middle East! 🤔 Because who needs NGOs delivering aid when you can have a good ol’ list of employees, right? Classic!

  11. Typical EU, always telling others how to run their show while they struggle to keep their own house in order. 😂 Good luck finding that “crucial aid” when you can’t tell who’s who!

  12. Typical, innit? Just when you think it’s safe to help, they throw in a bureaucratic curveball – like asking for ID at a pub after 10 pints! 🍻

Looks like Israel’s playing a game of “Guess Who?” with NGOs in Gaza—hope they don’t expect a prize for their creativity. 🤔 Who knew humanitarian aid came with so many fine print conditions? 🧐

Ever thought about how listing employees could solve world peace? 🤔 Right, because bureaucracy always trumps actual aid—what a novel approach, eh? 😂
