Romania secures over 586 million euros from the European Commission for transportation investments

Bucharest – The European Commission has allocated over 586 million euros to Romania from the Cohesion Fund and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) as part of the 2021-2027 Transport Programme, announced Finance Minister Alexandru Nazare on his Facebook page on Tuesday.

As per the minister’s updates, this funding is associated with significant infrastructure projects, including the Ploieşti-Buzău-Focşani motorway, which were originally part of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). However, from September to December this year, the government, in collaboration with the European Commission, shifted these projects to the 2021-2027 Transport Programme, facilitating a more effective utilization of EU resources.

Nazare emphasized that the funds received are EU grants, separate from Romanian taxpayer money, and will be invested directly into the Romanian economy, primarily for enhancing transport infrastructure, regional growth, and public services.

The minister also mentioned that on Sunday, the Ministry of Finance disbursed a total of 714 million lei to various local authorities to support their contributions to local investments financed through non-reimbursable grants related to the PNRR. (30.12.2025)

Brilliant! Just when you thought Romania was on the road to nowhere, they snag over half a billion from the EU to build some shiny new highways. Must be nice to have a GPS that points straight to the bank! 💸🚗

  4. Oh, fantastic! Romania’s got a nice little stash of euros for roads – because who doesn’t love a smooth ride on a motorway that took a decade to build? 😂💸 Just wait till they figure out how to actually spend it!

Oh, look at that, Romania’s getting a pocketful of euros for roads—who needs potholes when you can have a shiny new motorway? 🚗💸 Just wait until they realize those funds come with a side of bureaucracy! 😏

Just what we needed—another €586 million to fix the roads that seem to have been built by someone who thought potholes were a new sport. 🚧💸 Perhaps next time we can invest in a map that shows where those roads actually lead! 😂
