Ypres Water Main Break Affects 10 Homes in Van Damme

Ypres (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Ypres faced another water main break on Friday, Dec 27, 2025, leaving ten households without water. De Watergroep, led by spokesperson Brigitte Van Damme, repaired leaks affecting Lindendreef, Diksmuidseweg, Steverlyncklaan, including Regis Mylle’s shop.

As VRT News reported, Ypres faced another water main break on Friday, Dec 27, 2025, leaving about ten households without water. Repair teams from De Watergroep were sent out immediately.

Spokesperson Brigitte Van Damme said the water supply should be fully restored later in the day. The fire department closed the street near the leak for safety reasons. Authorities warned that freezing temperatures could make the water on the road icy.

What is causing repeated water leaks in Ypres homes?

The cause of the leak has not been identified. Officials say it may be linked to pipes or sudden changes in water pressure. This is the latest in a series of water problems in Ypres. Local households have been affected by repeated disruptions. De Watergroep said its teams are working to fix leaks quickly and reduce inconvenience.

By Christmas, dozens of households in Ypres were already facing water supply problems. Some homes had no water at all, while others had reduced pressure. The disruptions were caused by multiple leaks in the city’s water network. The most affected areas included Lindendreef, Diksmuidseweg, and Steverlyncklaan.

The urgent need to replace the pipes along Lindendreef has become evident. Today, the third leak from the same street has created more issues for both residents and businesses. One business affected by these issues is Regis Mylle’s Antique Shop, which is located on Lindendreef itself.

Similar issues of water problems due to dated and deteriorated piping occurred in Ypres previously. In early 2024, numerous properties in Lindendreef and surrounding streets lost water when pipes froze during cold temperatures. Emergency response crews were dispatched to swiftly repair the damage, and, due to safety concerns, several streets were also closed off for repairs.
