Two years have passed since Poland began reinforcing its security, establishing itself as a leader in both the European Union and NATO regarding defense spending and strategic initiatives, stated Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz on the anniversary of the government’s activities.
On December 12, 2023, newly appointed Prime Minister Donald Tusk presented the government’s action plan and proposed cabinet members to deputies, which the Sejm subsequently approved. The swearing-in ceremony took place the following day, officiated by then-President Andrzej Duda.
In a social media video posted on Friday, Minister of National Defense reflected on “two years of strengthening Polish security.” He highlighted, “We are building a robust army, strong alliances, and a resilient society; these are our key pillars.”
He emphasized the focus on modernizing equipment from both domestic manufacturers and major allies, noting, “The individual equipment and safety of our soldiers are always our top priority,” stated Kosiniak-Kamysz.
The minister mentioned the ongoing development of a modern Navy, citing the selection of Swedish submarines under the Orka program as a significant indication of progress.
Addressing security along the eastern border, the Minister of National Defense referred to the NATO mission Eastern Sentry, initiated after the September incursion of Russian drones into Poland. This mission aims to bolster the protection of NATO’s eastern flank by deploying air defense systems and involving allied fighter jets in the region.
Kosiniak-Kamysz also highlighted the “Eastern Shield” program—a collaborative initiative by the Ministry of National Defense and the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces, which aims to construct various military installations and fortifications along the borders with Russia and Belarus.
He noted the establishment of Medical Forces, the incorporation of modern technology, and the implementation of artificial intelligence in military operations. “I could elaborate on this at length, as the Armament Agency has concluded 200 modernization contracts in the last two years,” the Minister of National Defense remarked. “However, the most crucial elements are the people, the soldiers, their philosophy of action, and accountability,” he stressed.
Kosiniak-Kamysz asserted that Poland is a frontrunner in both spending and strategic thought within the European Union and NATO. “We base our security architecture on our largest allies, notably the United States, while also developing a framework that enhances our capabilities in collaboration with Baltic Sea countries,” he stated.
He expressed commitment to enhancing the skills and qualifications of the armed forces. “We are investing in training and transforming education at both vocational and higher levels. Our higher military schools are a source of pride, and the young military professionals who join us represent our future,” affirmed the Minister of National Defense.
Additionally, he emphasized the importance of public participation in the recently launched universal defense training program “wGotowości,” which consists of various modules aimed at all interested Polish citizens. (12.12.2025)
